Seeking reassurance really.... I've had a horrid ear infection in my left ear for nearly two weeks now. At first it was total agony and the GP prescribed anti-biotic drops (otomize) which had no effect. I returned to the GP a few days later and she took a swab and prescribed a different kind of antibiotic drop. This also didn't have much effect. Swab came back as a fungal infection so I've been on anti-fungal drops for about five days now. Pain has definitely reduced and I paid privately to have my ear cleaned/micro-suctioned as GP said that would help as there was so much gunk in there (sorry!) but NHS not offering that service anymore.
The problem is... while the pain has definitely subsided, my ear still feels so full/pressured and I feel like I've gone pretty much deaf in that ear. Does anyone else have experience of lingering fullness/deafness caused by an ear infection, and does it get better?! I feel like I'm underwater/in a bubble - it's horrid.
Also, while the GP couldn't see any ear drum perforation I'm wondering whether to get a second opinion as the anti-fungal drops are agony to apply - burn/sting like crazy and I can almost feel them going way, deep inside my ear as if they are moving through the ear drum. Also, when I hold my nose and blow, as if to try and unblock my ear, I get a very odd sensation in the affected ear, as if air is whistling through it.
