Supporting a friend who has just miscarried. She has been advised to avoid trying to conceive and that it would be best if she didnt conceive in the next cycle of her period to allow her body to recover. On a personal level I don't know whether this is correct but she says she and her H are intending to use condoms and she will "just ask the doctor for some" as they dont usually use condoms and it is such a temporary period of time they will be usin them. I said I dont think doctors (or sexual health clinics) give out condoms and she said she thinks they do and she know someone who recently received some from an NHS GP. Anyone know the answer to this one?

No idea, but for the sake of a couple of quid I'd go to Tesco.

IME they usually do hand them out, you just have to ask.

I'd go to the nurse rather than the GP.

Or is there a sexual health clinic in her area? Usually you can just turn up to a walk in sexual health clinic and either ask for some condoms or sit and wait for an appointment with the nurse and get some. Some clinics have free vending machines for condoms, or there will be boxes of them lying around.

I have found though that the NHS tends to give out a brand of condoms called Passante which are not as good as Durex ones. I've had a couple of NHS ones splitting and DP says they don't feel as good.

She should be able to get some from her local family planning clinic. Ours gives out Durex ones -and several months supply at a time, so it is worth going.

thanks this is helpful, I will tell her to look up her local family planning clinic on the internet. thanks
