Why does my PMS vary so much?

Before I had DCs I (& DH) suffered terribly with my PMS. For 2 weeks before AF was due, I would be bad tempered and/or tearful. I also had horribly sore breasts and spots, then when AF arrived, I'd have agonising period pain (like being in labour) for 48 hours. This was every month.

After DS1 was born the symptoms practically went, I'd still have some irrational behaviour if I was having a bad day, but the pain and sore breasts completely stopped

Then I has DS2 and for another 2-3 years everything was fine, but in the last 3 years or so, it's getting back to how it was, only not every month. Sometimes it comes and goes and I barely notice, others I'm in tears and exhausted for 2 weeks with sore boobs and then the dreadful tummy pains again. Any ideas why?
