Breakthrough Bleeding while taking the combined pill

Hello I'm new here and would really appreciate some help.

Since i finished breast feeding my son 5years ago I've been on the combined pill,Cilest. For special occassions I'll take my packs straight through without a break so I dont have a period.I've never experienced any problems with doing this until last week.I took the pill straight through and one week into the second pack I started bleeding.
I mentioned this to my gp and she wants me to have swabs taken when I've stopped bleeding.I stopped tsking the pill last thursday to give my body a break.I'm terrified that there's something seriously wrong.
Has anyone else experienced problems with this?

It's really quite common to have breakthrough bleeding when running two or more packets together.

Your GP is being thorough by advising swabs but I imagine there is nothing wrong at all; it's just one of the common side effects of back-to-backing the COCP.

There is no real need to have a break from the pill (it is metabolised very quickly, hence why you can get pregnant from missing two pills or delaying the start of a new packet!) so if you are planning coming off the pill you need alternative contraception immediately.

Some women also get a bit of spotting when they stop taking the pill.

Thanks for answering my message Sidge.
I've discussed not taking the pill with my partner and we've both decided that if it doesn't agree with me then we'll use condoms.

With this period though I've been experiencing alot pain in my lower stomach and back.I'm also very tired, feeling sick and extremely emotional. Is this normal?

I found it was quite common for my period after taking more than one packet to be worse than normal... I just put it down to there being more built up over longer (if that makes sense) and for the change in hormones to make more of a difference because you haven't had it for a while.

Same with the breakthrough bleeding.

I wouldn't worry too much but perhaps mention it when you get your swab results
