Can anyone profer any advice?

My 86 year old father has just come out of hospital from having an op to remove the cancer in his bladder. All is well except that he is very very bloated and this is giving him pain and also has constant hiccups. He's not used to being ill and therefore is not the best patient in the world. After the last op he had he mowed the lawn the next day (grrrrrr).

Is there anything he can do to help. He's not got much appetite but I've suggested not eating much solids at all. Given that all he had last night was a bit of white fish and boiled potato and then was in a lot of pain.

He's also on antibiotics because he got an infection as well so I've suggested some probiotic drink or yoghurts to help.

Any suggestions I can pass on would be gratefully received.

I think you should phone the ward where he was and ask their advice re hiccups and bloating.

Peppermint tea might help with the bloating. Tbh it is probably worth checking that pain after eating is normal though.

I've given him pepermint tea now so thanks for that tip.

The GP has been today and thinks that he has a combination of gas and a hole in his bladder wall which he is leaking urine and so this is causing the pain. I think he needs to go back into hospital for them to sort it. My mother is going to see how he is tomorrow and then take him in.

Thank you very much for your suggestions.
