Help stopping my period!

Hi all. Due to go away soon, and the week I go falls on my bloody (literally!) period.

Is there anything that a GP can prescribe to stop or delay it?

I wouldn't mind so much, but since having a coil fitted, the first couple of days are VERY heavy! Sorry, TMI.

TIA.

Can you still take the pill?

Hamkin · 04/07/2010 01:20

Yes I can take the pill. Would that stop it?

the doctor can prescribe something called norithistorone (possibly not the correct spelling) i was prescribed it due to heavy periods and it always worked, you just start taking it a few days before your period starts and continue to take it til it ends roughly. I suffer endometreosis and it stopped mine completely

norethisterone. you can take it from 3/4 days before your period is due and for aslong asyou want to delay it for. GP prescribes it.

(this is the 2nd time this week i have posted about this-strange)

the pill wouldn't work as you have to start taking it the first day of your period so you would have needed to start it on your last period.

sorry i was presuming you were going away this week but if you expect to have a period before you go away (and then one when you are away) you could arrange to start it and just run two packs together.

Thanks booyhoo! May venture to the GP now I know I can actually get something.

I can wear my bikini now instead of sitting around in my "period" black jeans/black trousers/black anything in case of leakage

i know i forgot my period was due today and only remebered when sitting in the leisure centre in my white linen trousers!!! that was nervous morning. luckily it hasn't shown up yet so the trousers have been spared.
