Hi, am almost 45 and periods have been anything from a 23 day cylce to 29 days, however last one in may was 21 days and I havn't had one since.Am sure i am not pregnant, have an appointment on monday for scans to confirm fibroids, periods have been heavier recently - so menopause or not?
Am assuming scans on monday - ultrasound and transvaginal will confirm I am not pregant - have also posted in the menopause section but it's a bit quiet over there

I was told periods stopped suddenly, or got further apart and then stopped, or decreased in quantity until they stopped. I know fibroids cause heavy bleeding because DSis had them. In fact she had a rough time in her mid 40s. Sorry not much help am I!

Sounds like you're perimenopausal - i.e. starting the run up to the menopause.

Any hot flushes?
That would be the giveaway

For my periods I missed one, then had two a couple of weeks apart, then so far nothing for 8months.

Am mid 40s btw.

If you´re at all worried then I would book in for a blood test.

(Maybe you´re having flushes but the weather´s hiding it)

Everyone is completely different. My cyclces got shorter- down to 17 days at times but nevery aheavy flow.

I missed a couple of periods at 51, then had about 4 more regular ones, then they stopped again for good it seemed at 53. However, I have had a couple since which necessitated investigation after such a long gap - 18 months.

The perimeno can go on for up to 10 years - so you are simply winding down!
