Fasting blood test?

What are they looking for or at in the test? I know it's something to do with my blood sugar, but what, exactly?

They are checking for gestational diabetes. Your blood sugars will be checked before any intake, then they give you a huge glass of lucozade (yuck), and they will take your blood again a little while later.

A lot of women get diabetes during pregnancy only and they want to manage it properly if it happens.

Hope this helps x

That's the GTT, Chablis. I'm not pregnant, and I'm only having the simple blood test, AFAIAA.

Oops!! Not got a clue then. Sorry!

It's still to test your fasting blood glucose levels. If someone has raised amounts of sugar/glucose in their blood despite having fasted for several hours (when blood sugar levels should be at their lowest) then that can mean their body is not processing out the sugar properly i.e. not creating enough insulin.

You need a fasting blood test for an accurate blood sugar result, or cholesterol.

It's best to get a result unaffected by what you have eaten or drunk recently.

If your blood sugar is elevated after fasting it can indicate diabetes.

Ah, it makes sense now. Thanks.
