PCOS - a few questions

I was diagnosed with PCOS 3 months ago after discovering I had a high testosterone level . I'd been struggling to keep my weight down for years, and also had terrible skin.

The doctor gave me a 3 month supply of Dianette, which finally seems to be helping my skin. I'm going back this week to get some more, and was wondering if I should ask the doctor anything else.

Should I ask for an ultrasound? I've always had fairly regular, problem free periods, but I've read about people having ultrasounds after being diagnosed with PCOS so wondered whether it's necessary.

Also, I'm considering metformin as I have a family history of type 2 diabetes. I'm really struggling to lose weight despite following a low GI diet and going to the gym 4 times a week. The problem is that I have IBS and I've read that metformin can cause bowel problems. If I go on metformin, can I stop taking it suddenly if it does cause problems? Has anyone found it made much difference to their weight loss?

Sorry for the long post, but I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by everything so any help would be appreciated
