red circular patches that won't go away on legs

They are not itchy, they are the size of a 5p maximum size, they are flakey red patches with distinct edges. Look like the red that is left after a scab has fallen off. I had a couple, then over the last week they have increased. On both lower legs now. Probably about 10 of them?

Any ideas?

Hi, if it is guttate psoriasis then you will need to see the GP - ove the counter stuff doesn't work. I was refered to a dermatologist who prescribed Dovonex cream. It was gone within the week and have only had the occasion spot since then (5 years ago). Never had a major flare up since. Mine was triggered by strep throat by the way.

funny as DH has just recovered from strep throat, last week. i did not get it though.

pityriasis versicolor also a possibility (fungal)
Please see GP before messing around with canesten as its always easier with skin things to diagnose it before different creams have gone on.

So how does one get a fungal, or indeed a viral infection such as these? from other people? from bad diet?

I would very much like to know why I developed pityriasis rosea when I did!. However, the underlying cause/s of pityriasis rosea are not fully understood although it has been linked with viruses. BTW no-one else in my family had this and it remained so.
