*TMI Alert* Tampax Strings

I know I am rather new around here and have only ever posted on 'happy fluffy' topics, but I am taking the plunge!

Since I've had the implanon 'thing' put in, I only ever have periods every 3 months or so. I've noticed that the past few times my [Insert awkward terminology for vagina here] has been absolutely burning when I have a tampon in. Can you be allergic to tampon strings? Should I be looking for a sensitive-skin-friendly (although surely all of them are?) organic, non-bleached variety, or am I being a hypochondriac?

Has anyone else come across this before?

One word - mooncup

DaisyFields · 14/06/2010 12:48

Thank you Lionstar, I had never heard of the Mooncup before and done a quick Google - enlightening!

Mooncup.

The way forward

Lionstar · 14/06/2010 19:40

No problem .

You'll learn more about mooncups on Mumsnet than you ever wanted to know - it has quite a following. I never knew about it until I arrived here, and now I'm a big fan.

oo yes a convert here - i giggled like a school girl and laughed about them at work when i first joined mumsnet - now i am more maturer and worldy wise i preach about them much to the amusement of my colleagues.

Mooncup I thought the whole idea was totally minging, couldn't get Tampax in properly, real ishoos with going down there - and I love my Mooncup . The best thing is being able to put it in when you think your period might be about to start.

DaisyFields · 22/06/2010 18:57

Thanks everyone. Wow, must remember that MN is a mooncup-friendly zone though, and not to start discussing it on the bus/over the Sunday dinner table! Thank you though, I am definitely (if I dare take one to the till at boots) going to give it a try. Thanks again.

Another mooncup convert here too, courtesy of MN. Definitely worth trying.

No, I have that irritation with string thing. I have tried a Mooncup as well which I would rather use but my insides are an odd shape (apparently) and it doesn't seal as it should so I have to use tampax. Which give me exactly the feeling you are describing, a bit like monthly thrush.

BertieBotts · 24/06/2010 12:45

Ooh yes another mooncup fan here Probably one of the best inventions.. ever.
