PILL OR MIRENA COIL?

I am due to go on a bit of a girly trip for a few days soon and annoyingly, my period is due exactly then. I really suffer and don't want to be popping painkillers and thinking about tampons (sorry, TMI).

I was thinking about the having the mirena coil fitted anyway. My trip is in a couple of weeks. Would this be enough time for me to get used to it and would it stop my period? Am I right in thinking if I got a prescription for the pill, I would have to start taking it at the beginning of my period (so I would still have to have AF?). Haven't taken the pill for years, forgetting all the ins and outs!

OR, is there an alternative to the above?

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Hi overdone there is a tablet you can take to delay your period can't remember what its called, just pop down to your docs and ask him. I was due on my period last year when i went away with the girls. You have to take the tablet 3 times a day at the same time but it was well worth it. Hope that helps x

The Mirena probably won't stop your period in time for your break - I had (slight) breakthrough bleeding for six months (off and on, not constant!) after I had mine, erm, installed. Very little since though, so it's good in the long run. (If it suits you - not everyone has had my happy experience)

The tablet that you mentioned Lisa, do you start taking it the day you think AF is due? I am going somewhere with a 5hour time change so was wondering if that would muck it all up if I take it before I go?
