Migraine, high white blood cells, confusion in 70 year old????

We live some way from PIL, and received a call on Friday to say that FIL had been admitted to hospital for tests, after suffering a seriously bad headache combined with confusion/memory loss. He was discharged the following day.

He is undergoing tests, and they have found that he has got protein (in blood or urine - DH didn't ask!!!) and a high white blood cell count.

I know we should be patient and wait for the doctors to come back to him, but just wondered if anyone had experienced anything similar?

Thank you.

I would also suspect infection

VERY common for the older person to experience confusion with an infection (UTI usual culprit)

Actually I do remember my mum being really poorly with a urine infection once. They're doing more tests later this week, so hopefully will get something conclusive.

Thanks.
