Barabra Loe Fisher on pig virus found in rotavirus vaccines. Yikes.

I know we don't give either of these vaccines in the UK but this is quite a big story which highlights the worrying issue of vaccine contamination.

This happened before with a simian virus in polio vaccines.

Don't know about anyone else but when I gaily trotted along to my doctor to have DD1 vaccinated it didn't occur to me that this sort of thing could happen. I naively assumed that vaccines contained a tiny bit of virus or bacteria and nothing else.

Anyway here is Barbara Loe Fisher (campaigner for vaccine safety and the right to informed consent in the US) on the subject.

I wonder what Dr Offit has to say about this.

You couldn't make it up

I can't believe they're not going pull this thing at least until they find out what the dangers are.

I wonder if this will lead to similar testing in injected vaccines - it seems like it should but I'm not holding my breath.

I also wonder if/when Offit is going to say something about this.

You're right Riven - there was a vaccine contaminated with a bovine virus, I don't remember which one but it would probably be easy enough to find.

I read somewhere that the BCG vaccination was withdrawn without explanation in 2000.

Not to mention the convenient switch to the 5 in 1 non-mercury containing vaccine without any admission that mercury ones were dangerous. Just quietly get rid of them and bring in a new one...no one will notice....sigh...

Have thought a lot about the new, apparently, recommendations that all pg women have a mercury containing flu jab. Beachcomber what you said about this some months ago sends shivers down my spine.

Sorry slightly off topic but it came up the other day and here you are to mention it!
