i feel like im 16 again!!

now that im done with babymaking, and that im a bit older and lots more busy i want something that:

  1. i dont have to take every day at the same hour
  2. is effective
  3. will not make me put on weight

is the coil the best?
im a bit wary of the injection and patch.. are you using it? if so what do u think of it?

If your family is complete you could consider sterilisation - either him or you.

Otherwise a coil is effective, won't make you put weight on, and is in for 5-7 years.

It can hurt slightly but not too much if you have had a vaginal delivery before as your cervix is already softer and slightly open.

Otheriwise a Mirena coil can help with controlling bleeding and rarely makes women put weight on and is very effective.

Or you could stick with a barrier method such as condoms.

i dont want to be sterilised (nor do i want DP to be either), you never know...
i didnt know there was different types of coils... i need to look into this then. thanks

I have a copper coil and it's fine. This is my second one and I think it's a good idea. I hate the thought of taking hormones or having to fiddle with messy barrier methods.

Karoleann · 02/06/2010 22:53

I had a copper coil too didn't hurt at all when putting in, but there was a bit of spotting afterwards and my first couple of periods were a bit heavier.
I didn't have the mirena as didn't want any more hormones!

I had the Mirena coil it was a disaster for me - never stopped bleeding, no sex drive, mood swings from hell, acne.

Copper I wouldn't have because I don't agree with it from a standpoint of conscience.

DreamsInBinary · 03/06/2010 21:32

Mirena has been great for me, too.

I bled continually with the mini-pill, but after the first 3-4 weeks have had nothing for over six months with the mirena.

No acne, no weight-gain, no mood swings.

May be worth searching older posts, though, because I know that some people have had a nightmare.

I would strongly suggest taking medicinalgin painkillers beforehand, though. I was in agony when they inserted it.
