Argh - hyperactive/hungry baby on steroids

DD2 has just started a 2 week course of prednisolone to shrink a large strawberry mark which is affecting her vision. She's on a very big dose (25 mg) which will tail off gradually over the next two weeks. It's working already but problem is she's starving ( think steroids boost your appetite?). She's BF every hour to two hours today - has been topped up with expressed milk/formula. I've been trying to express to increase supply etc ( crap at this tho). She's also been a bit manic/hyper/irritable all day and is now chatting/giggling to herself in her cot ( normally fast asleep by now) . Does this appetite effect wear off? Anybody know?

DS had prednisalone fizzy pink disolvable tablets for his asthma

They made him high as a kite and hungry

but then it wears off after a while and back to normal

So prob will for your DD

Don't know the answer to how long it will last but you will boost supply quicker by just feeding her rather than expressing. Hope it settles soon.

Just to let you know that dd2s eye is heaps better . Only 5 days of steroids to go. She's still feeding every 2 to 3 hours ( 3 to 4 at night) and still has a slightly crazed glint in her eye but the feeding seems to be improving. I've packed in the expressing for now .Thanks for the support and advice

glad its wearing off!

gave you dried SMA white or similar which fills baby up for longer for your 'top ups'?
