Can't remember what my hb was, but it warranted further testing and my ferritin came back at 7.8 which the GP wanted to try to correct through diet. Fast forward a week and I feel atrocious, in bed by 7pm, no energy, lack of concentration, muscles don't want to work etc. Back to the surgery and saw a different GP who was surprised that nothing had been done and has put me on ferrous sulphate 200mg x3 daily and said it'll be 3 months before my blood cells are all renewed, but surely I will feel better earlier than that?? I can't carry on another day like this never mind 3 months Already had to take time off work this week.

Anything else i can do to help it along faster?

My ferritin level was 7 a few weeks ago and I was prescribed a medicine by the doc as I can't tolerate tablets. Take spatone as well every morning with ornage juice and eat spinach leaves and broccoli everyday. Very heavy periods so I guess that is the reason why for me. Don't think I absorb iron very well either.
I have been referred to the menstrual disorder clinic in June so i am hoping that something can be done to lighten my periods and then i will feel like i have more energy.

Ferritin is exceedingly low - what is your haemoglobin and do you know your iron saturations.

As people have said diet-wise best go for an animal source of iron combined with vitamin c and take the oral ferrous sulphate.

I would want to no why your iron stores are so low.
You can have intravenous iron but that would be a last resort . You have to go in as a daycase and it is not routine.
