how long to wait for special cases commitee?

More of a WWYD really. My case has been referred to a special cases committee, I have asked for some non urgent treatment, it has been 9 weeks now since my GP sent the letter and I have heard nothing. I have rung the GP on several occasions, and they have said the same thing - as soon as they hear anything they will let me know. I'm interested to hear if anyone has been through a similar process, as the GP surgery wont give me a timescale on how long it will take, but knowing the NHS like I do, I am worried that the letter has gone astray and I'm sitting around waiting for the committee to look at my case when they havent even received the letter if you see what I mean!

I'm afraid we GPs have no control over how long decisions take - it's all down to the PCT. GPs usually find out the decision after the patient does.

You'd be better off ringing your PCT and asking to speak to whoever is in charge of special cases (called INNFs in some areas). Good luck!

Thanks for your reply, I asked for their contact details but was told I wasnt allowed to contact them, only the GP could do that, and to wait for them to get in touch. I dont expect it to happen overnight, but I really would just like to know that they have def. received the letter and be given an idea of when they will look at it and roughly when I can expect to have an answer.

That's odd and definitely not the case in this area - patients contact the PCT all the time. You could try Googling the PCT's address and writing to them - just write to the manager for special cases.

At our PCT, we have exceptional funding meetings every fortnight or more. Nine weeks is too long to wait. And you can absolutely conatct the PCT.

I would contact the PALS manager as they will escalate it. Good luck.
