Raging sore throat, what will soothe it?

Have a stonking cold, cough and the worst sore throat I can remember - it feels completely raw. Apart from the obvious paracetemol, fluids and honey & lemon, anyone found anything that will soothe a horrible throat?

Gargle with asprin dissolved in water, or a little diluted TCP (makes you smell lovely too!!)

Hope u feel better soon.

Thanks for that, a cold gargle is probably just the job.

Can you take ibuprofen? I find it helps take the swollen-ness down a bit iyswim? Salt water is good. Ice lollies, ice cream, soup, boullion, etc all help and sucky sweets of any variety.
Sympathies - I HATE sore throuats more than any other ailment.

Agree with the gargling with aspirin.

Would also recommend knocking yourself out with Night Nurse (assuming there's someone else 'on duty' to deal with your DC, if you have any - it will knock you out!)

My dad had throat surgery recently and his Doc recommended sucking chocolate! He said throat sweets often just irritate throats more.

merocaine lozenges. i always keep them in , they at least numb your throat for a while.

im gonna try chocolate next time!

Difflam gargle is good and chloraseptic spray.Strefen lozenges and merocaine are good too.

Thanks for the advice - TCP gargle has helped a bit but the house STINKS!!

Throat is actually worse tonight, not helped by long long day at work, and not a lot of voice left, think it might need antibiotics.

Hope you feel better soon, Alypaly - I hate feeling this rough, and you have my sympathies.
