Broken little toe?

Ok wise mumsnetters, am wondering if i broke my little toe? I know that nothing gets done for broken toes but i was just wondering as i am always stubbing my toes but the day before yesterday i did it and it stung and hurt like hell and still does if i knock it, i also cant move it about too much.

It doesnt look massively swollen but there is a huge bruise spreading out on the top of my foot from where the little toe connects to my foot, about an inch and a half in diameter and there is a very small weird lump on the top of my little toe too ... what do you think? Broken toe?

Possibly - as you say they don't do anything with toes anyway - ouch though!

Last time I wrenched my little toe I just strapped it to the next one so it wouldn't catch on things; I think that's all you can do really & it does subside after a while.

Yeah it was definately owch, the times ive stubbed it and its ok a few hours afterwards but this time its all bruised and hurts still - i might try the strapping thing though, thanks!

It's possibly broken, people can break their toes this way. It doesn't need an x-ray unless you want one as there's not alot they will do other then strap it to the next toe. If you are finding it difficult to walk then go and get it checked, if not, use some medical tape and strap it to the toe next to it.

It sounds like mine looked after I broke my little toe - misjudged the width of a doorway. Bruising across base of toes, swelling, persistent pain.

However - if there is a strange lump/bump, ie it looks deformed/misshapen, then you should get it checked at a minor injuries unit or a and e. As it is not true that they never do anything for broken toes.

Take regular painkillers and wear sturdy shoes to protect it from further bangs

Sounds very like my DD's toe when she broke it - bruising across the base etc.(she stubbed hers too) She did go to minor injuries for advice, but they didn't actually strap it or anything. It took several weeks to heal

I broke my little toe yesterday , I went to AnE, who strapped it.

It is soo bloody annoying and painful.

I'm hobbling about like an old woman, afraid all the time of banging it again.

My poor DD got quite upset when I wailed at her when she stood on my foot, thankfully she stood on my big toe.

Very frustrating that such a small part of your body can be so disabling!

I broke my toe on a bookcase. Immensely painful. I went to A&E and without asking they gave me the same painkillers I had post-childbirth. All they did was strap it to the next toe. Pain lasted a good two weeks which spoilt what should have been a lovely holiday in Barbados (broke toe day before we flew).

Elevate your foot as much as you can. Put an ice pack on for 10-15 minutes every few hours. And some painkillers regularly should take the edge off.
