How long do you leave it before going to the GP with a sore throat?

It's been 8 days now and I'm still in agony - the back of my throat is bright red and I can hardly swallow

I'm taking paracetamol and have also been using a throat spray which helps a tiny bit...

These things normally go away on their own by now don't they? I don't feel too ill otherwise - just earache and headache and a little achy, but not properly ill.

Do you think I should go to the docs? Or can't they do anything for this kind of thing anyway?

If you're in agony, then you probably have tonsilitis. You need ABs pronto.

berri · 20/05/2010 13:49

Wouldn't I have a temp etc with tonsilitis? Also there are no white spots - can you have it without them?

Are your lymph nodes in your neck swollen? I would ask a pharmacist what they would recommend, especially if it is one (a pharmacy) attached to your doctors surgery as they can send you straight to duty doctor if they think you need a prescription. I find this a less embarrassing (and more direct) route than going in with something I think is minor.

Hmm I think so - everything feels swollen!

We don't have a pharmacy attached to the docs unfortunately...but maybe I'll just have to go to the GP - hate it for things like this though!
