hello wise mumnetters,
i need your advices on the following matter a lot and i would be really grateful.
i am having dental problems since middle of february.
i have a bridge which i had to have because of a dentist error years ago during canal treatment. i have quite nice teeth but he messed it up.
this year in february i felt pain around that area and went to a dentist who we usually went for my child.
he took x-ray and said there is infection there, gave antibiotics which i used afterwards but pain didn't go away.
he wasn't able to take the x-ray of the very behind tooth under the bridge.
anyway, i heard some stories about that dentist and searched for another one which i found quite far away from where we live.
at end of february i went there, i was happy with the treatment, he was able to take the x-ray of all tooth covered by bridge.
he said there is infection at a place near the near of very back tooth under bridge.
he said they can't do it in their place and they referred me to a dental hospital.
they said it would take 7 weeks to have them invite me for treatment.
around near end of march i gave them a call, the hospital said they haven't got a referral.
dental practice spoke to hospital, after some wait, i had another x-ray taken at that dentist which is far away as i said before.
this time we were sure no problem would arise.
but i haven't received any letter again and rang the hospital.
the young lady on the phone said, they have received the referral but there is no x-ray with it.
i rang back my dentist, they haven't rang me back yet.
i am so shocked and upset and feeling so helpless.
i am not able to use that side of my teeth when eating for a long time now.
not knowing how to sort this problem out is making me so upset.
-what can i do?
-how can i have a treatment urgent, because i waited so long and having pain?
-how and why is this happenning?
maybe the first referral is lost, how they cannot have the x-ray and have the referral letter which are sent together in the second time.
thank you in advance.

It is possible that the first referral got lost in the post, bloody annoying, but does happen. Or your dentist could simply have forgotten to do it!

Also, with the 2nd referral, very possible that they forgot to send the xray......BUT that is no excuse for the hospital as they could have done one of two things

1] Called the referring dentist & req the xray
2] Called you in for an xray

So really, both the dental practice & the dental clinic at the hospital are at fault!

I am sorry that you are having such utter crap service!

I would suggest you speak to the practice manager/ess of the dental practice & explain what has happened & ask how they intend to get you seen as a matter of urgency wrt getting this sorted out!

If they are ANY good at all, they will be feeling awful and doing their utmost to get you seen urgently. Call them again today if they haven't got back to you.

I work in a dental practice and sadly although we ALWAYS do send the referrals they are often not received by the dental hospital for some reason and have to be resent, the dentists always feel awful and do their best to get the patient seen quickly, I hope it's the same there.

i thought i give an update and tell my new problems .
feeling quite upset at the moment .
after ringing the dentist and telling them i am waiting for their response i haven't heard anything.
so i found another dentist. because i was tired of ringing the first place.
the recent dentist today took x-rays again and told me that the tooth at the back has decayed, it needs to be taken out, which means first the bridge will be removed.
and he said hospital wouldn't do that job.
i dont understand what is going on.
-is the first place in some kind of fault? they didn't want to do the job?
-shall i believe the second dentist and have the bridge and the tooth removed. he tried to show me with a little mirror that the tooth has decayed but how can i be sure about a tooth under a bridge?
there isn't pain there in fact but sensitivity that i can't eat with that side.
-also i asked both dentists that i have sensivity at the top set opposite bridge, they say there is nothing there.
-if i have the very back tooth removed i will have 2 teeth missing from the same place (with the one i lost long time ago due to a dentist error). how will this affect my eating?
-and also i remember that when first error was made years ago while canal treatment some of the medicine which he left went to my jaw bone. i dont know its actual situation now and if it will be affected again while taking out the very back tooth or will it be easy or possible to take out the tooth.
sorry asking all those questions, but there is noone to ask and the denstist don't really provide with information.
thanks so much for reading, and i would be really grateful if i can get answers.

its weekend and then bank holiday, such a bad luck i cant do anything about my problem...
i feel uncomfortable, and don't know what to do.
thinking of making a complaint about the first place, because they haven't rang me with any useful information.
btw, when i said the bridge will be removed, its wrong, he will cut it, so one of the tooth will remain like crowned.
my mouth feels uncomfortable, i can't find any taste in anything.
i try to keep myself busy, but when i rest i feel the high sensivity which is affecting the other teeth around, and in my mind thinking what shall i do?
