I have gall stones and saw v unhelpful consultant who ummed and ahhed at my ds 14wks old and said who have to stop bf to have op. Was not willing to do this and although not happy with comment left as was now not getting attacks. However, 2wks later I have had three attacks in two weeks and v sore under ribs and now have review appt in Aug. If I phoned clinic could I bring appt forward and if I now wanted to be booked in for op, how long would the op wait be likely to be?

Sorry you're in pain - recently had mine removed so I sympathise.

Re: waiting lists, it does depend on where you are in the country. My PCT has a 16 week max waiting list but in reality, it's usually much sorter than that. I think I waited 3 weeks to be referred from GP to Consultant and then I had my op around 6 weeks later.

With regard to the pain, ask your GP if you can take Buscopan whilst BF. And eat apples -they soften the stones apparently. And I cut out ALL fat. I was a complete loon about it but there was nothing I wanted to eat that was worth that pain.

Good luck.

No quite. Usually it is greasy food that triggers mine but the other day it was an apple that tiggered it strangely enough. I think will phone hospital and ask for review to be moved forward.

I had mine removed almost a year ago now and it took almost a year for the surgery to come through after being put on the waiting list. (I am in London). During this time I was in and out of hospital on a VERY regular basis (I knew all of the doctors and Nurses personally in my local A&E) during the last month prior to surgery I was in A&E every 3 days and my liver enzymes were so out of whack they were unsure of giving me the surgery without a possible ERCP first.
I had 2 surgeries cancelled 24hours before they were due to take place.

My best recommendation to you is to get the telephone number of your consultants secretary and 'make friends' with them. They will be able to slot you in to any cancellation spots that come up and check where you are on the list.

Good luck! They are horrible to have and life is so much better when the gallbladder is finally out.

Can I ask - did any of you have sharp pains in your back level with breasts and halfway between spine and arm on right hand side and did you have any dizziness? I am asking as my doctor is at a bit of a loss but mentioned gallstones. Both the pain and dizziness are worse after eating.

The pain sounds diddo! I have felt dizzy from time to time but had c section 14wks ago so might have been that making me
dizzy! I seem to have a couple of attacks and then they disappear for a while and then come back. Have cut out greasy food but may need to be more strict with self! Got no dietary advice from hospital. Thankfully not had to go to a and e. V nearly did last week but after an hour max pain goes. Thank goodness. V constipated this week (sorry tmi) and that is causing pain as well.
