What do they do for broken toes these days?

It's extremely likely that DS2 has broken his 2nd toe. (next to big one)

A&E? Leave it? strap it up?

He is using his foot semi normally, it's bruised on the "knuckle" part as well as on top of his foot. He has sensory issues and cancels out pain v v well so its hard to tell how much pain he is in although i can tell he is in some.

That toe is misshapen anyway but slightly more so than the same toe on the other foot.

they did nothing when dd2 broke that her and big toe and the one next to it

they dd nothing when I broke a metatarsal

dont think there is anything they can do that will help any

paracetemol and rest it a bit is usually all it needs

They chop them off.

actually, tis important to take him to be seen. dd broke hers inside the foot across the growth plate last autumn. It meant crutches and a while off her feet. no football for a couple of months and a review at the fracture clinic.

dd was strapped up. we were told the issue was that it might start twisting.

I'd go to the hospital. But knowing the pain I was in when I dislocated my toe, I doubt it could be broken.

mumofmonsters · 11/05/2010 20:43

Hmm well i have broken my toes - all except the big ones and 8 all in one go once ! It didn't always hurt and given his sensory issues i am not so sure.

He just came down for a drink and was putting weight on it properly.

dd couldnt even twitch her toe without agony. But I do know a lad with adhd and sensory issues who badly hurt his foot and wasn't aware of how bad it was.

I broke my foot and only found out when i last went for a foot x ray (ankle this time!)

They didn't do anything when my DD broke her toe (middle one), I think they take more action when its the big toe. I'd probably get it checked though, especially given what you've said about his sensory issues, in case he's done any other damage.

He seemed fine this morning. There is blood flow to the end of his toe, he isn't in pain when i touch it but there is discomfort.

So I have given it a wait and see until after school and then see what it's like and been like during the day.
