visitor to our house had fruit de mer platter at lunchtime and is now violently ill, sick, stomach cramps. have put her to bed, not well enough to travel home at present. she'd like eno's salt, which i know is essentially baking powder. can i make her a home made version anyone advise please?

food poisoning generally takes longer than that to set in so it's probably a coincidence that she had fish

sorry not sure about the salts

Food poisoning sets in within 4 hours, so I would get medical advice pronto

cheers thanks! have knocked her up basic antacid and she's sleeping.

it depends what type of food poisoning it is as to how long it takes to set in, bt agree she should get medical advice

How quickly symptoms start depend very much on the bacteria causing the food poisoning. It can be as quick as 2 hours it can be as long as several days.

Did anyone else have the fruits der mer platter and are they symptomatic?

merryberry · 11/05/2010 18:49

noone else, but she thought the rprawns were bad. she has none of the toxin symptoms (as it happens i'm an infectious disease epidemiologist) and has perked right up now she's warmed up and had the antacid. my friend is driving her home with mobile sick bucket to her husband and her own bed, bless her. and i'm giving her nhs direct numbers and sumptoms print out.

thank you all xfx
