Sounds like vaginal bacteriosis - off to the GP with you smellychuff!

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 10/05/2010 15:53

yup. gp. if it's really bad he'll be able to diagnose you from the car.

whomovedmychocolate · 10/05/2010 16:50

If it's really bad the neighbourhood cats try to break into your house!

muggglewump · 10/05/2010 16:52

Bacterial vaginosis.
Get yourself to the GP, very easily sorted, but yep reeks.

smellyladygarden · 10/05/2010 19:44

oh no not the gp - how utterly embarrassing - is it a std ? or like thrush ? - cant i just get something over the counter?
have any of you had it ?

OP posts:
going · 10/05/2010 19:48

It does sound like BV.
It is really vile and smelly, the dr will give you antibiotics and within a day or two the smell will go. They will probably swab and if you are unlucky confirm there and them that it is indeed very smelly!

smellyladygarden · 10/05/2010 19:53

oh no i cant let the doc go down "there" oh no really cant they just take my word for it

EnchantedWithGordon · 10/05/2010 19:55

You could tell them you are very embarresed and if they need a swab ask if you could do it yourself in the loo?

muggglewump · 10/05/2010 20:41

Yes, I have had it, yes I did have to get the swab. yes it was hideously embarrassing.
Sorry but it's what you need to do to get rid of it.
They will have smelled seen it before, it's very common and no, not an STD.

Tis up to you, but the smell is going nowhere without treatment.

Take a canary in a cage with you, if the canary dies, the GP will probably take your word for it

UCM, is that you?

EnchantedWithGordon · 10/05/2010 20:58

Poor Op!!

Lol WMMC, not theard that in yonks

muggglewump · 10/05/2010 21:04

I had to swab my own groin (not my word) last week for MRSA.
Ywas a tad odd, and I wasn't sure where I was meant to swab really, so went for the fanjo front, but not in.
As it happens I don't have MRSA, nor swine flu but that's a different story.

brightyoungthing · 10/05/2010 21:49

Poor thing, I had this when I was 16 and put up with it for a year before getting treatment as I was so embarrassed!
It got so bad it smelt like farts in the end, and all my class mates could smell it but never clicked that it was me!
If you really feel too embarrassed to have an examination then describe your symptoms and ask for a broad base anti-biotic such as metronidazole, a medical domestos that will kill anything off! You may need to buy some thrush cream for after though as it's really strong. Good luck, and I hope you find the courage to be examined

smellyladygarden · 11/05/2010 06:51

think i will make an appointment to see a lady doctor ,oh god why me

OP posts:
SilveryMoon · 11/05/2010 07:01

I used to get it quite often. There was a stage where I was on ab's every 4 months for it.
It is really common though, is just an off-balance of the natural bacteria that live down there.
Your gp would have seen it hundreds of times and won't make an issue out of it, I promise.
Washing does not help BV.
I use Femfresh to wash down there now as it doesn't have soap in it, so is more natural.
Also, thongs are supposed to cause/make the condition worse, which is why I now wear massive knickers! But would rather have a VPL than a smelly minge

brimfull · 11/05/2010 07:07

mother3 · 11/05/2010 07:29

VoulezVouzCrochezAvecJACK · 11/05/2010 10:09

mother3?

Yeah well if you feel embarrassed about seeing the doc just look up the threads on bartolyns cysts on here. Okay they don't actually smell but when the GP has to examine your lady bits - oh and then you hit the ceiling as she suddenly finds the problem - well, they really do see everything...

Oblomov · 11/05/2010 13:24

I thought that some people just smell strong. I do. Mine isn't as bad as Op's. But I do smell strong. I know I do. Dh doesn't seem to mind/care. I just assumed it was normal.

whomovedmychocolate · 11/05/2010 15:47

If you are a regular you will probably my recall my 'I appear to be growing a bollock' thread SLG (that was a cyst too) - so you know I've flashed the fadge at the GP before. Best thing is, go in say 'I have these symptoms, I think it's X, do you concur?' Mostly they nod sagely and write up scripts at this point without you having to do a show and tell

Cannotfindaname · 11/05/2010 20:19

I sometimes notice a strong smell. Has been worse of late so I have wondered if it could be BV or I just stink.

Maybe I need a trip to the docs too.
