dh has gone in this am for an op this afternoon. was told this morning he was going down at 1.30. rung at 4 -he had only just come back up and to ring back at 6pm. how likely is it that he will come home tonight - and I presume they will not let him leave ward alone. I have 3 dc's and hospital is 45 mins away.

I suppose it depends what the op is? I had my wisdom teeth out under GA last year and they wanted me to stay overnight but I asked to be discharged and they had to monitor my blood pressure every 20 mins for 3 hours post-op and then they let me go, but they require you to be accompanied home and that you have someone with you at all times for 24 hours after a general anaesthetic in case any complications arise.

Depends on what op is for and how he recovers afterwards.

I had a couple of day time ops a couple of years ago. Both times I went in the morning and was first in. Was allowed home late afternoon IIRR. Had to eat first - a very dry sandwich from what i remember. I had to be accompanied home, couldn't drive obviously, and have someone with me overnight.

Did he get to come home?

I doubt I;d have been discharged had I had my op at 4pm.
