Reality show or serious psychological experiment? You decide. The idea is to get three people with severe obsessive compulsive disorder to live together to help them conquer their demons. They're a bizarre and poignant trio. Sophie is an obsessive handwasher; Gerard hasn't put pen to paper for five years because he's scared he'll confess to imaginary crimes; and Wendy is terrified of encountering specks of dirt or, worse, glitter. Watching them in the grip of their fears is at once painful and surreal - Gerard even chains himself to his bed at night. Psychologists cajole them into confronting their fears head on.

saw a woman on TV this morning on GMTV who thought it was DEFFO BRILL

Are they seriously advertising this as "Reality show or serious psychological experiment"? Makes me feel a bit uneasy that they consider it could be seen as a reality show - putting these people together and televising it as entertainment.

I don't know WWB and wouldn't have alerted it if I hadn't seen this woman this morning cos I felt a bit uneasy about it

Yes, that's true, ks. It was just the bit about reality shows that made me a bit unsure. I'd hate to think that the condition would be exploited in that kind of way.

It depends on how they present it, I suppose. The fact that they refer to the people involved as "bizarre" doesn't have me thinking that it's going to be presented in a particularly sympathetic way, but it's hard to judge on just a synopsis.

it better not be anything other than a serious programme, I'll be SO offended if they think this might be 'entertaining / light entertainment' I'll be the first to write a MASSIVE letter of complaint if it's in bad taste.
Hopefully it'll make sufferers feel less alone, help people to understand more about it, etc erc.

Channel 4 has a real habit of giving good programmesx crap sensationalist names recently. It's a shame.

Seems a bit 'lets put the weirdos in a box and stare at them' from the taster adverts am trying to reserve judgement though!

i've decided to not to watch this as we've been told that dd has mild O.C and as the programmes are often shown poorly i feel best to stear away from it.

That was my concern, fastasleep, that it would be done with the idea of mental illness as amusing entertainment for Big Brother fans (sorry, BB fans, but you know what I mean). I suffer with OCD and this really makes me feel uneasy.

i have OCD behaviours too....and i will switch this off if it starts to be 'entertainment' at my expense.

I was at a parenting group recently and we were shown a video of a family where the mum was an obsessive hoarder...i do that too.

I was ok till the people watching it with me started to snigger at the state of this womans home...i had a full blown panick attack.

also...i'd love it to show everyone that OCD is not 'just' about repeatedly washing hands.... which i know is what most people conclude is all OCD is about.

Absolutely, MrsF. It's a hugely wide-ranging condition.

ks- yes I'm fairly sure ocd sufferers do have low serotonin...
