Broken hip

I am shocked. My mum has fallen and broke her hip ( the bone linking the femur to the pelvis). She will need an operation and screws will be inserted.
Anyone has gone through similar experience and how long will the recovery take ?
My mum is 65.

My MIL is currently in hospital with a fractured femur after a fall (her useless DH knocked her over!!). She is also around your Mum's age and was operated on by pinning the bone. MIL now has a post operative scar around four to six inches long on her hip.

The hospital has pinned the fracture and she has been on the ward for the past three weeks. She should be discharged from hospital this coming Monday (bringing her home by ambulance). A specialist femur nurse also visited MIL over the past week.

The actual recovery period will in all likelihood for my MIL take a few months. MIL will have to rely on her DH to help full time once she is home. A commode (there is no downstairs toilet in their house so one of these is needed) and stair rails has been installed by the council. When she returns home she will walk with the aid of crutches.
