Have had a lump like a stye by my lower eyelid for about six weeks, finally got to docs and nurse gave me antibiotic eyedrops.

Roll on a few days this lump now has a huge white head (apologies TMI). Now do I squeeze it or just let it be?

Squeeze it!

amidaiwish · 20/04/2010 19:05

you should: leave it

i would: squeeze it. couldn't help myself.

DrivenToDistraction · 20/04/2010 19:06

Just let it be, the skin is sooo delicate around the eye. If it's sore then see the nurse again she may be able to lance it for you.

purplefish · 20/04/2010 19:11

Ouchy!!!!

megcleary · 20/04/2010 19:27

It's really starting to feel tight now, I am sitting on my hands ooooh I think it will take forever to heal if I squeeze it..........

instead of squeezing can you just stretch the skin either side, see if it bursts?

choufleur · 20/04/2010 19:29

i would have to squeeze it. probably not the best thing to do though

5inthebed · 20/04/2010 19:35

I would pin you down and squeeze it for you . Does it hurt?

Good idea about stretching the skin either side.

KurriKurri · 20/04/2010 19:42

You might spread the infection if you squeeze (tempting though it is) you could try making a hot compress (cotton wool dipped in hottish water then squeeze excess water out) and holding it on the stye, (make sure your hands are v. clean) - then it might burst spontaneously.

OOOoohhhh conflicting advice and some people I am offically scared of maybe the hot water. DH keeps muttering about volcanos, eruptions thinks me popping it may cause worse than an ash cloud....heh heeh there's a gross thought.

I would squeeze it too, wouldn't be able to resist a huge whitehead...

mumblecrumble · 20/04/2010 21:09

ANy news?

WickedWench · 20/04/2010 21:10

I would have to squeeze it too.

But.. and I know it's near your eye so maximum care and steady hands would be in order but how about sterilising a needle in a flame and bursting it that way? Less stress on the skin when you make a clean hole so to speak.

BunnyLebowski · 20/04/2010 21:12

NO NO NO NO NO NO Definitely do no squeeze it.

Wait for me to come over and squeeze it for you

No?

At least post a pic then?

Lulumaam · 20/04/2010 21:13

hot hot hot flannel on it first, impeccably clean hands and go and gently press.

Lulumaam · 20/04/2010 21:13

there;s a site for people like oyu bunny

popthatzit.com IIRC

someone linked to it previously on a spot thread

BunnyLebowski · 20/04/2010 21:16

Lulu

my wet dream

Valpollicella · 20/04/2010 21:16

Make a hot saline solution, and using the cotten wool hold it against your stye. It will help bring and infection to the surface.

Make sure you wash your hands thoroughly and then use more saline to clean it after the satisfactory pop

thelunar66 · 20/04/2010 21:19

God Bunny... that image!!! Eeek.

Lionstar · 20/04/2010 21:19

Bunny that will give me nightmares tonight

PandaEis · 20/04/2010 21:26

i would squeeze it if it were me but i am another self confessed 'spot-squeezing perv' (its so damn satisfying)

have you done it yet??

Lulumaam · 20/04/2010 21:49

may i recommend magnesium sulpate paste to help bring things to a head?

monkeyfacegrace · 20/04/2010 21:57

Ahh bunny I almost foamed at the mouth over that pic. LET ME AT IT GODDAMIT, I WANNA HEAR THE CRUNCH!!

JustMyTwoPenceWorth · 20/04/2010 21:59

Gawd bunny, that's gross.

And I would have to squeeze it. If it was on me. I couldn't squeeze someone else's spots - what's WRONG with you people?!
