Anyone want to hold hands and quit the fags together?

Hi,
I'm quitting smoking. Had my last cigarette on Saturday. My DP kept me on the straight and narrow yesterday, but he's at work today so does anyone want to come and hold my hand/join me in ditching the cigarettes? I smoked 10-15 rollups a day, and I'm just sick of the cough. DP quit cold turkey a year ago, and DB quit using patches about the same time. So now it's my turn

Novice hoping you're doing ok.
I'm a bit here. Just got BFP. So bloody good thing I've just stopped smoking eh?
Think it means I'll have to stop taking champix though.

Imfeckinpetigo · 23/04/2010 22:28

Sorry what is BFP? Is it something good?! I kind of feel it is but I really have no idea, I'm pretty hopeless!

Hope you are feeling a wee bit better Novice, the thought of you with a hot bottle strapped to your back eating chocolates made me smile, sorry I know you must be in a lot of pain.

I'm in Shetland, a very long way from London. It's nice just very bloody cold

Imfeckinpetigo · 23/04/2010 22:31

Oh wow QoD I just googled BFP! How wonderful, huge congratulations!

Really happy for you, off to bed with a big smile, you take good care.

QueenofDreams · 24/04/2010 10:48

Thanks Im. In shock a little bit here (even though this was totally planned)
Novice hope you're doing ok. How're the kidneys feeling?

OP posts:
elportodelgato · 26/04/2010 19:29

QoD! CONGRATULATIONS!! Oh wow, I was offline for a few days so haven't been checking in but OMG! this is brilliant news

Hey, cigarettes will be very far from your mind now I expect!

I am so happy for you. Did you tell your family at the weekend or are you keeping it under wraps for now?

I am doing OK - feeling just generally a bit crap all round but feeling ill means I am not thinking about fags at all, and also am not drinking so that's another temptation removed.

How are you doing Im? How was your weekend with the kids?

QueenofDreams · 26/04/2010 20:13

Sorry to hear you're still feeling crap novice.
Still it's good there's a positive side

I really really really wanted a cigarette last night because I had a serious panic about having a dc2. DP wouldn't let me have one though. We told MIL and DPs sibs at the weekend, and I told my parents and sister today. I figure if it all goes wrong we'd be telling them anyway so they might as well know from the start.

OP posts:
elportodelgato · 26/04/2010 20:33

how many weeks are you QoD? brilliant that you've told your family, they'll help keep you off the cigs

are you feeling nauseous? God I don't blame you feeling nervous about a DC2, I find one quite enough to deal with most of the time, but are there other things you are planning to do to relax yourself while pg rather than cigs? BTW, we have done NINE DAYS!

QueenofDreams · 27/04/2010 09:35

NINE DAYS! wow not bad at all.
I'm about 4wks +4 days at the moment.
DS driving me nuts though

Imfeckinpetigo · 28/04/2010 15:23

Hi, sorry haven't had a chance to be here for days.

Are you feeling any better today novice? I really hope you are, I was vexed to read you were still feeling pretty shite.

How exciting for you QoD, how much of an age gap will there be between your dc? Having two dc is great fun, honestly, it's just a bit busier .

I have two, one dd who is 6 and a ds who is 5. I think for me one of the best thing about having two is they always have someone to play with, my two get on so well, really don't argue much and are very good at sharing. They play a lot of 'made up' games, at the moment my dd is trying to learn a Cheryl Cole dance routine, my poor ds is ALL the backing dancers (which seems to be prooving a bit difficult ). It is so funny watching them, but of course I'm not supposed to laugh! I am a single parent and have been for nearly 4 years now but we are a happy little family.

No fags for me either, I feel a bit guilty as I have been stopped for a month now so a bit ahead of you guys. Still I nearly had one on Saturday, lit it and everything but I threw it away. Somebody told me to brush my teeth when I felt like one, it doesn't work so don't bother trying it if you hear the same advice!

QueenofDreams · 29/04/2010 18:05

Thanks for the reassurance Im - I've been worrying about having two a lot!

So I haven't smoked, although I desperately wanted to on saturday when I had my panicky meltdown but DP hid the last cigarettes.

novice hope you're doing ok and your kidneys have recovered!

OP posts:
elportodelgato · 29/04/2010 19:33

Hi Im and QoD, thanks for asking, the kidneys have got worse but now a bit better again so haven't been online much as have been lying on a hot water bottle moaning gently and trying to get some sleep. Been off work for 4 days now, getting quite bored and annoyed with it

Anyway, in amongst all the pain and antibiotics, I completely did not notice that I have skipped my period and it turns out I am pg as well!! found out on Tues and tbh am also a bit in shock like you QoD! We were not using protection but also not really trying IYSWIM. I haven't started to get excited about it yet, mainly cos I just want to feel well again and then I can focus on it properly. I am 5+4, so QoD we'll be going through this second pregnancy together! December babies!

Im, your kids sound ace, how lovely that they're so close in age and enjoy playing together. I can just imagine your DS trying to be all of Cheryl Cole's backing dancers , that made me chuckle. You've been giving up for ages, do you think the cravings are subsiding over time? I guess my worry is that I'll go for ages without one but as soon as a stressful situation comes up it'll be the first thing I go for...

QoD, how old is your DS? My DD is 23mo, I'm hoping she'll be OK about being a big sis but I think she'll be horrified at first - she thinks she's the queen of everything at the moment (only grandchild on both sides). Are you having any nausea? is that putting you off the fags at all?

I've been too ill to even think about smoking this week - the temptation will come if I allow myself a little glass of wine at some point...

QueenofDreams · 29/04/2010 19:36

OH MY GOD NOVICE!!
When are you due then? My ds is 19 months old. Come join us on the antenatal thread then novice
Not having nausea, just my appetite has gone odd. Don't fancy food at all.
Not finding I'm having cravings that much. When I do I'm just keeping busy with other stuff to keep my mind off it.

so im doing ok it so far jst a bit more hungry than normal

i had some wine on tuedsay and my mate offered me one i had it in my hand and ended up throwing it at him the bloody wind up

other than that i have been ok thank goodness

elportodelgato · 29/04/2010 19:58

whoops, that's a pretty good reason to give up when your 3 yo wants to come out and have one with you . I reckon, just eat what you want while you're getting through it, worry about the 'diet' stuff later

QoD, I am off to join you on the antenatal thread x

coolma · 29/04/2010 20:01

Hi all - I am three months and 1 day into this effort (did three years once and buggered it up!) but am furious with myself as I had one at work today Absolutley ridiculous thing to do, especially as I am training for a 10K run at the moment - having never run further than the front door to the car . I'm doing about 30 lengths in the pool three times a week so what the flip was I thinking? Anyway, hope you don;t mind me joining the thread to keep me off the ruddy things!

elportodelgato · 29/04/2010 20:18

Hey coolma, welcome! bloody good on you training for a 10k run. I've done a few 5ks and they have almost killed me so massive respect!

What was the trigger at work today, were you stressed? or were you thinking 'one won't hurt'? or was someone else having one and you thought 'why not'?

I don't know if you've read the whole thread but I was diagnosed with a lung inflammation a couple of weeks ago which is DIRECTLY linked to my smoking. It was only this tangible thing which has made me sit up and think about it properly and I got totally scared: of not being around for my DD and DH, of being long-term ill or worse

So what I am saying is, don't put yourself through that and just start tomorrow as a non-smoker again. You're doing seriously well to go from non-exercising smoker to 30 lengths 3x a week and running as well, I am so impressed. As soon as I am not pg, I'll be following your example

QueenofDreams · 29/04/2010 20:31

Hey and welcome whoops and coolma

cool I second novice's words. You're doing really well. Just carry on tomorrow as a non smoker

OP posts:
coolma · 29/04/2010 21:04

I did read that novice - awful wake up call - I started feeling really wheezy and got chest pains which made me decide to 'do it' this time..Ihave no idea what made me have one today - really stupid of me! Luckily all my colleagues made me feel rubbish about it, so I'm pretty sure it won't be repeated! I am so determined to do this run for my work (homeless charity) I can't let them down as have told them all - gulp . You are all doing so well. thanks for the positivity!

whoopsididitagain · 29/04/2010 22:19

my big thing is to rn a marathon before im thirty which is next december [sob]

i have found a 26 week plan thing im following im gonna enter the lnd ballot and try to enter the robin hood one where i live too

i gave up when pg no problem coz im quite outspoken about pg women smoking and coldnt be a hypocrite i can give up til im drinking i have no will power when intoxicated

ty for the welcome

coolma · 30/04/2010 21:09

Just thought I'd check in and see how everyone is doing! I was fine today. No real cravings - and resisted with no real difficulty, so hopefully back on track. Updates please

QueenofDreams · 30/04/2010 22:07

Whoops, I also quit really easily while pg. For months since then I've been saying I'd quit but not had the willpower to actually do it.
coolma glad you're doing well today. I've done well as well, although partly because morning sickness has kicked in and I feel too damn sick to smoke.

OP posts:
elportodelgato · 01/05/2010 19:29

whoops, like you and QoD I also quit v easily when pg (and now am pg again, I'm not finding it a big issue) but also like you, it's the demon booze that makes me want a fag in my hand...
QoD sorry to hear that the ms has kicked in

whoopsididitagain · 04/05/2010 18:15

im still ff [fagfree] whoop whoop

hope evryone is well
