I went today for my sigmoidoscopy... I have had 3 children with no painrelief and nothing compares to how much that little camera tube hurt!

They couldn't look all the way as my heart rate was through the roof and I really was in alot of pain,

She said my bowel is healthy though thankgod!

I will never have one of those ever again!!

ow didn't they give you anything to numb it?
(sorry have no experience of this)

Disenchanted3 · 15/04/2010 17:02

They can sedate you but they told me on arrival they don't as most people find it fine!

I'm not a wimp, I'm really not but it was horrific! Have taken some pain killers now.

I've had one Disenchanted, it was uncomfortable at the time I was told I had a rather twisty/turny bowel perhaps that was the case with you, and cramp/wind afterwards, but I was OK by the next day. Can you take some painkillers so you can get a decent night sleep?

You were brave to watch any of it - I didn't!
Good to get it out of the way, and v.pleased for you that the results were encouraging.

sorry x-post

Disenchanted3 · 15/04/2010 17:08

Thanks, no I didn't look! I had my eyes closed tightly!

They suspected I had crohns but seem to have ruled that out as it all looked good,

so I'm thinking IBS or allergy now.

Just glad I don't have to have another, if I do ever I'll egt them to sedate me!

I went last Thursday to have a Endoscopy I was planning to have the sedative but when I got to the clinic one of the health workers said if it was her having it done she would just have the throat spray!
So I went ahead and believe me I lived to regret it, my body involuntary retched all the time through the procedure and I was in shock shaking and crying after it had finished. So beware.!!

Disenchanted3 · 15/04/2010 21:44

I think they make it out to be a quick procedure, in and out of the clinic, but its not its very paainful and scary and humiliating!
