Rubella vaccine

My DDs age 13 and 10 did not have the MMR because I developed an auto immune disease soon after having the rubella vaccine, which pretty much ruined my life and the GP said she could not give me the reassurance the same would not happen to my kids if they had it. I felt I would let them make up their own minds about the risks re rubella when they are older but I still feel incredibly guilty. Is anyone else in the same position and what would you do about it?

I don't believe you have anything to feel guilty about.
I have happily and confidently vaccinated DC against everything going, btw. But obviously vax can't be the right choice for everyone.

Gm. Why don't you get them tested to see if they're immune to it? Rubella is v mild so you may not have even noticed them having it. I don't think there's anything for you to feel guilty about at all.

Grovemum - i have only had the rubella vaccine at the age of 31 yrs after i gave birth to my second child , I was not allowed to have it in school when all the other girls were getting it as i had Eczema & asthma & in those days they were unsure of the effect the vaccine would have on me , i was fine during both my pregnancies & even though i told my midwife i was not having any more children after dc2 they insisted i have the vaccine before discharging me from hospital. You have nothing to feel guilty about x

I don't really understand why you feel guilty?

My DCs stopped having vaccs after DS2 had a terrible reaction . DD is 7 and has not had any at all.
Ds1 is 16 now and since he has been old enough I have talked to him, encouraging him to form his own views and assuring him that I am happy to support him if he choses to go for any vaccs now or in the future.

What is it exactly you feel guilty about?

My cousin was given the rubella vac at 16, fell into a coma and ended up paralysed from neck down and blind. She died last week aged 42 after a chest infection.

I happen to have no antibodies to rubella as discovered in my first PG and there was no chance I was getting it. I was scared but what could I do when faced with it.

Ive managed to have two healthy babies. I f I was to have another Id make sure I fell in Autum as winter is a time unlikely to catch rubella and it's early PG you worry about.
