Hi

Does anyone know how you change ranitidine to omperazole?

My DD 20 weeks has been on ranit since 6 weeks and GP just given us omperazole as she seems to be worse again but they didnt know if should just stop one and start other, or have a cross over period.

Paeds appt not for few weeks and really need something to help DD who is so much discomfort, not feeding and not thriving.

Any advice appreciated!

I hate reflux so much!!

yes just stop one and start the other at usual time.

when in a 24hour period is the reflux worse and when does she take it?

on trick i learnt was not to take it in the morning as you usally sit up in the day and its not so bad but to take it before bed as this is the worst time. alternatively split the dose for twice a day.

you should find omeplazole way better.

thanks, interesting as she is much worse in the morning but okish late afternoon and evening. i have no idea why!

i take it it was for your baby/child and not you? did it work straight away?

am really hoping it makes a difference!

thanks again

I now give Omeprazole just at night, for a while DS was having two doses a day but that was more as we were having difficulty getting it inside him. When DS was your LO'S age I would say he was worse in the evening but was pretty grumpy (in pain) for most of the day

Omeprazole should kick in working straight away

they both do the same thing but work in sligthly different ways. One is an H2 antagonist and the other is a proton pump inhibitor...but ultimately they both supress the production of stomach acid

Omeprazole may be given with Gaviscon but not with ranitidine. Keep in mind that it will take a week to see improvement; if nothing changes, the dosage given may be too low. Are you BF? If yes you should watch your diet and reduce dairy, tea, chocolate, .... If she is on formula, there is one for reflux baby.
