Has anyone else had this before?

I had some treatment on abnormal cells in my cervix about 6 months ago. Since then my periods have been irregular, heavy and painful. I have also had black discharge. Had an appointment today where they examined me and did another smear.

I have been told that my cervix is bleeding. I've also been told that my irregular periods is likely to be linked to anxiety.

One of two things will happen next: If my smear comes back negative then I will have treatment to fix my damaged cervix, if it comes back positive then I will need more treatment to remove the abnormal cells.

The whole thing is making me even more anxious, please tell me all will be ok. (I have [stupidly] been googling )

Would reiterate you seek proper medical advice from a gynae and not google.

Your irregular periods are more likely to be due to an underlying hormonal imbalance rather than anxiety. Anxiety in itself would not cause this to arise.

Are you currently under the care of a consultant gynaecologist?. If so is this person fully aware of what has been happening since the last smear with regards to your periods?.

Attila - I saw my gynae yesterday and explained what has been happenign with my periods since the treatment 6 months ago. He said I could try the pill to rule out the possibility that it's a hormonal thing thats affecting my periods, but he said it's more than likely to be stress related. He said the black discharge is from my cervix. I thought after the last treatment that would be it
