Was it an asthma attack?

My DH occasionally has bouts of coughing to the point of almost choking which usually seems to be associated with having a hot drink (I have said it might be because he slurps!)
The other night he started off with one, which I thought was his usual coughing thing and proceeded to hit his back as usual, but then he was really struggling to draw breath and wheezing when trying to breathe in & not able to talk, so I called an ambulance. Thankfully he came round before I finished the 999 call.
I told him he needs to go to the doctors about it. Could it have been an asthma attack?

Thanks

I don't really know, but he must see the doc as it sounds potentially very serious.

I wonder if he's inhaling hot vapour from his drink which is triggering asthma? I'm in no way an expert, but I think hot air can be a trigger as well as cold air.

If you think you might have trouble getting him to see the doc, phone the Asthma UK adviceline and see what they say - it might help to convince him.

i have asthma and the symtoms are very simalar to mine. ashtma can be diagnosed with a simple spiromatry test. ask him to ask the doctor for this test. some doctors diagnose on symptoms alone but i would ask for the test first as you dont want to be taking medication on an assumtpion. good luck. hope he gets it sorted

My Dh has very similar symptoms after drinking a MILKY drink. He usually avoids milk and generally his asthma is well under control.

He should get checked by the GP though.
