I keep getting thrusH. For no apparent reason. Can anyone shed some light on why this might be happening.

I don't use anything nasty to wash down there. I wear cotton pants, nothing tight fitting.

are you on the pill or any hormones at all?

i stopped getting it when i came off pill. i got it without fail once a month.

chimchar · 10/04/2010 20:09

watching with interest. i seem to get it monthly...its a bloody nightmare. i'm sure it falls in with the week of my period starting...
i wondered if it was diet related. i eat nothing but a shit load of sugar when i'm due on!

You are more likely to get thrush when you have higher progesterone in your body- ie 2nd half of cycle, down to hormonal changes and acidity in the vagina.

Yes, sugar and refined foods make it more likely.

So do hot baths, tight clothes, and re-infection by a partner even if he has no symptoms.

Cleanin gup your diet can help a lot- there is loads of info on the net about it all.

A diet high in sugar, white bread etc and yeasty foods can cause it, cutting back for at least 6 weeks should help.

i thought eatin gmore fruit/ less greasy food helped.

I have had near constant thrush for months now...every time i get the diet right it gets better, then i stop bothering, and it gets worse..

also regular fanny hygeine rules apply, can't wait to stop work so i can wander round with no knickkers at all....

have you treated your partner because if you are sexually active you will just get reinfected. Diflucan is the best thing for men even if they havent got any symptoms. They carry it under their foreskin and are often asymptomatic.

Are you very thirsty..or does diabetes run in the family.

I belive if you have it more than 3 times in 2-3 months they are supposed to refer you.

My dr gave me gynodaktarin. It's like a cream which you insert with cardboard applicators every day for a week or so It was amazing for me, I'd had thrush constantly for a year, it started when I was pg and never went away. Canestan didn't touch it.

I think sometimes when you get it you need sone serious drugs to eliminate it.

Sympathy! Thrush is horrid.

See your GP. You need swabs to check that it definitely is thrush (sounds like it is but it's important to be sure) plus a blood test to check you're not diabetic, which makes you more prone to thrush. You may also need long term treatment - I often give women in your situation a weekly treatment for 6 months.
