Yesterday I had to have a foreign body removed from my eye. It had scratched the outer edge of my cornea, and cut up the inside of my upper eyelid a bit. It had been there for 24h, but didn't appear to have caused any infection. I've been given chloramphenicol ointment to put in my eye 4 x daily for 7 days.

If there was an actual infection I'd use it, but as a preventative do I really need to do this? It's pretty hefty stuff! My eye seems to be fine now.

Had same stuff recently for corneal abrasion, apparently is v little evidence that it prevents infection but I used it anyway as 1. it made my eye more comfortable and 2. even minimal lowering of risk felt worth it so did it 4 x a day for 4 days as prescribed
