Threadworms in Pregnancy?

mummyosar · 03/04/2010 19:14

My daughter has threadworms.
I am only 5 weeks pregnant, I have done all the cleaning / treated her & partner but don't think I can take anything.

I don't know if i have it yet, but highly likely as I do all nappys / bath etc.

I am totally stressed out about it.

Any help appreciated.

Poor you! I feel for you. My daughter had possible threadworm when I was about 24wks pregnant, and I got utterly freaked out.

I don't think you can take anything in the first 12 weeks, tbh, but later on you CAN take piperazine....Pripsen do one (but be careful, they also do a mebendazole version which is the same as Ovex), and my OB was fine about me taking it.

I did google a lot at the time, and in Third World countries they have done a massive trial of using Ovex with pregnant and lactating women (iirc), with no apparent problems. But no doctor here is likely to prescribe it for you at this point, I'm afraid.

If you use strict hygiene, especially wearing pants and PJs at night, the lifecycle of threadworms is broken and they should die out...there are also homeopathic remedies that are meant to do the trick, but I don't know anything about them personally.

Fingers crossed you don't have them, though!
