BOF your DD is so pretty - hope you get a nice restful evening.

DEM - DS1 is 5. There were younger children there and the film is very sweet but a little bit scarey at the end. DS1 shed a few tears because he was so happy at the end - he is very in touch with this feelings .

Saw a trailer for Karate Kid which looks very good.

BitOfFun · 03/04/2010 18:37

DEM, the local picturehouse does autism-friendly screenings actually, but I wouldn't take her as she has the attention span of a gnat and can't watch telly. Although I have seen her laugh when people fall off things on Total Wipeout

DidEinsteinsMum · 03/04/2010 18:39

Interesting. Ds can get into watching films a good chunk of the time but he struggles with new environments and there is a lot of sensory information with the cinema so might leave it for now. His dad wants to take him to a kids screening but i think that is going to be worse. Maybe an evening screening when there is less kids? Oh i dont know will have to think on it.

BitOfFun · 03/04/2010 18:43

Try googling for autism-friendly screenings? I bet quite a few places do them now. I think that they keep things a bit more subdued, but as I've not been myself I'm not sure.

jetcat · 03/04/2010 18:44

man alive - ex has just rang me (the girls are there for the weekend). Tis his first payday and has decided to get junior a wii Well, i say that, 2/3 of it is junior's birthday and xmas money she was saving, he is putting £50 in.

But, am i awful to say she is desparate for a new bed instead After hers constantly broke (the slats kept falling out) she is currently on a mattress on the floor, which she does actually prefer - it just looks awful. I just told him if he is splashing the cash, it would be more useful if he bought something she actually needed - no maintenence as of yet!

BitOfFun · 03/04/2010 18:45

From the NAS website:

"These screenings, arranged in partnership with The National Autistic Society (NAS), are designed for people on the autism spectrum, their families, friends and carers. During the film, low lights are left on inside the auditorium and the volume of the soundtrack is reduced. Cinemagoers are free to move around, make a noise or take a break during the film if they need to - these are activities not usually encouraged at regular screenings.

The cinema is often not a place that is easily accessible for families affected by autism. These screenings aim to make families feel welcome, comfortable and relaxed in an environment that can otherwise seem traumatic, enjoying a film with other families who experience similar issues."

jetcat · 03/04/2010 18:47

those screenings sound fab BoF - i didnt even know cinemas did them

Lizzylou · 03/04/2010 18:50

Hmm Jet.
I dunno, does Junior knows he has suggested helping to pay towards a Wii?
Is the Ex handy at all? Could he fix the bed?

DidEinsteinsMum · 03/04/2010 18:50

I will google and try to find somewhere near me. Thanks BoF. I too didnt know they did them and it might be a way to go. As although ds is boarderline when he isnt coping best to treat as is. less traumatic for everyone.

Lizzylou · 03/04/2010 18:53

The new Doctor Who assistant shares the same lovely colouring as your DD, BOF.
Gorgeous deep red hair and deep brown eyes, she is very pretty.

That is wonderful that you can get Autism friendly screenings, bet there'll be somewhere in Manchester area that does them, DEM.

Glad you found your purse, Tracey

yup - junior herself was saving for one, and has been since xmas, she has done really well. I thought that if i mentioned the bed, he would say something about maintenecne, but apparantly not! I wouldnt make junior pay for her own bed though. I think i am just maybe irrationally irked that he now comes across as the good guy getting her a wii, while i struggle to pay for necessities, as he refuses to pay me any bloody money

bed is way past fixing - think she did it on purpose as she hated it and wanted to sleep on the floor

BitOfFun · 03/04/2010 18:55

Hahahaaaa

jetcat · 03/04/2010 18:56

defluff

BitOfFun · 03/04/2010 18:57

Ooh, just googled the Dr Who assistant- she is gawjuss!

jetcat · 03/04/2010 18:58

sorry tracey - yes, glad you found your purse

hellsbelles · 03/04/2010 18:58

jet - that is a tricky one. AS lizzy says - is the bed totally beyond help?

DEM - sorry you are still feeling so awful. Will DS let you get some rest.

Tracey - so glad you found the wallet but what a nuisance about all the cancelled cards. As you know I know what it feels like .

O.k...off to have a bath while DH & DS watch Dr. Who.

Lizzy - hope you are right about DD - she is a good sleeper usually at home. But hopefully all her wobbly walking will have knackered her

Myfanjoisdefluffed · 03/04/2010 19:02

jet - is your exh my exh?? Buys hundreds of soft toys for dd1 but maintenance oh no siree, that would be far too sensible.

Gives over NO money but it would be me that would be the baddy if we couldn't afford ballet lessons, uniform etc as he wouldn't tell her.

Why get a bed when you can get a wii???! argh, eternal tossers teenagers (ex not your dd)

And now - off into the bath!!!

traceybath · 03/04/2010 19:04

She was a model wasn't she - she is utterly stunning.

Jet - any chance of getting a second hand bed?

DEM - we went to the first showing at the cinema of the day and think there were about 15 people in there - very quiet.

Has anyone been to see the latest nanny mcphee?

Myfanjoisdefluffed · 03/04/2010 19:04

[disclaimer - Hells and I are not sharing a bath, I know its got a bit friendly on here recently, but not that friendly, ok.]

Have you tried Freecycle for a single bed, Jet?
Or local paper?
I bet you could get one quite cheaply.

What a conundrum.

Well, if he pays £50 towards a Wii now, could he pay £50 next payday for a new bed (bet you could get a single bed frame for that if you had a good look).

Assuming that Junior is OK on the mattress for another month/until he next gets paid.

BOF, isn't she just? Think you may have to lock up DD once she hits the teens, she will be knockout.
