Any tips for lowering blood pressure?

My mum has recently been diagnosed with high blood pressure and is currently waiting for a 24 hour monitor, which will tell whether or not she needs to take tablets to lower it. Does anyone have any tips for lowering blood pressure naturally? I understand that caffeine and salt RAISE blood pressure, but just wondered if there was anything that may help to lower it? Thanks in advance.

exercise without a doubt. If she isn't too unfit then walking brsikly for 45 mins- 1hr a day to begin with, eating more fruitand veg, reducing salt and cutting out alcohol.

oh yeah, exercise will do it. What purple peopny says. Also eating celery, bananas and tomatoes, I think these foods are high in potassium/magnesium and can be diuretics, which can help to balance the blood pressure. Also - relaxation, i.e reiki or meditation. HTH

If she smokes - then that needs to be the first thing to go.
If she hasn't done any exercise in a long time, then it's best to get checked over by the GP before embarking on any new fitness programme. Then build up gradually to about 30-45 minutes of brisk walking 5 times a week.

Thanks for all your advice. She is a non-smoker and is always busy, but doesn't do much walking. She and my dad do go on Wii fit a few times each week though . I'll suggest the bananas, celery and tomatoes and also suggest walking a little more. Thanks very much.
