I went into the chemist the other day to get some Medised and I got the 3rd degree over who it was for, how old they were etc etc It says on the box that it is suitable for very young children but they really didn't want to sell it to me so I left without it. Is there something I don't know, only got it just in case my DS got a cold as I remember it being really good when he was younger for unblocking his nose so he could sleep well.

They changed the age for it and a few other medicines not too long ago, due to the risk of overmedicating iirr.

Not recommended for young children. Is it 6 or 12 now? I forget. Anyway, there's stuff out there if you google or search the archives on here. It's not just medised, there was a big overhaul of various medicines.

I only have experience, not actal knowledge. It is supposed to be to dry out runny noses & aid sleep but I understand that parents were using it to sedate their children. As it contains a sedative.

That's why. They now say it's only for over 6s. HTHs

It's not an overmedication thing iirc. It's do with potential side effects of ingredients.

And more widely an acknowledgment of the fact that a lot of cough and cold remedies that used to be available OTC, don't actually do anything.
