Hypotonic baby??!??

Can anyone give me some advice? Will try and keep this brief. DS (8wks old) born by emergency section after having cord round neck twice. Didn't breathe after he was born and had fits for a couple of days. Went for his 6 wk check today and the doctor said he was quite hypotonic when he rested him face down on his arm. What does this mean??? Is it a sign of brain damage? He has had an MRI and an EEG but we have to wait until the beginning of August to find out the results. We're getting paranoid about every little thing now and this was just the icing on the cake! Has anyone got any advice on this?

I'm sorry Mhorne, I'm not experienced in this type of thing. The only thing I can say is august is only a couple of weeks away, and at least you have already had these tests done. Hopefully they will show all is ok. If the GP had been the first to suspect any problems you would be facing an even longer wait, if you see what I mean. Hopefully someone more knowledgable will come alone. In the mean time don't be afraid to go back to the GP's and ask him outright what he meant. He should have been more forthcoming IMO.

my dd (32 mths) had/has mild/moderate hypotonia, it's low muscle tone basically, in varying severity.
DD had physio and met her milestones a little later and in a slightly more unorthodox way!
He probably expected your ds to resit on his front a bit more, 6 wks is VERY early to assess for hypotonia though esp given the traumatic start your little chappy had.
It is nothing to do with brain damage, well in my dd's case it isn't - so try not to worry and concentrate on adoring your little guy
