Old friend (only in touh via facebook now) ' wife very poorly with liver cancer.

Has spread to her bones...

On facebook (he;s keeping lots of us up to date - respectfully done) says she has pnumonia, infections and that family were called in yesterday morning. Now stable...

SO, please forgive and undertsnad my directness, do you think she's on her way out? Its so tragic, don;t realy know how to feel and can;t get my head round it. A year ago they were just like us, young coupple, gorgeous toddler.

what do you think?

I'm very sorry about your friend, it sounds as if she may be nearing the end . There is a booklet by Marie Curie cancer care here
which gives fairly straightforward information about what happens at the end of life. You might find it helpful (I have looked at it and actually it is quite comforting). HTH
