Shaking head

Dd is 4 months old. She has started shaking her head like a shudder every so often and it is worrying me. I saw a programme a while ago where a baby had similar behaviour and they said he was epileptic. I'm the only one who's seen her do this as it doesn't happen very often. Does anyone elses baby do the same? Not sure if I should go to the doctor as they won't be able to see it happen.

GL, my ds3 who is now 10 months did this for a while too. He was probably about 6 months because I remember mentioning it at a check up. He did it probably for about a month or so I think and then it stopped. It kind of made me laugh and I think that made him do it more! I did start to worry too after he carried on for a while but he's not done it now for months.

Just keep an eye on it and if it's still going on in a few weeks, just get it checked out.

Do you mean it's like a spasm or is it like she is shaking her head to say no but faster? That's what my ds did. Sorry if I misunderstood you.

Have you done a search, I remember quite a few threads about 4-6 month olds and head shaking and they usually come to the conclusion that babies do it because they can. Have you tried it? It feels kind of unusual and spinny, just the sort of thing a baby would like doing.

Seriously she's probably just strengthening her vestibular system.

Thanks for all your messages. She shakes her head to one side, to the other side and then back again very quickly. It looks involuntary. I might mention it to the nurse when I take her for her injections next week. That way I can show her what she does.
