Has anyone tried a gluten and dairy free diet with IBS? Please I'm desperate for some help.

My sister follows this diet for her IBS and finds it helps. She's lost a lot of weight on it though (was thin to start with)

I have done this and its helped alot.

For me it is more dairy than gluten as I have found that after gradually re-introducing gluten, I can tolerate a certain amount.

The Lactofree products are a god send as I really cannot stand rice milk and too much soya gives me bad wind/cramps!

Have you spoken to your doctor/nurse/dietitian?

Yes, Doc says to follow an ibs diet and make a food diary which is what I'm doing. This is the 2nd day now that I've started a gluten and dairy free diet. Have had some cramps but not worried too much because I would think that it takes a few days for your body to get used to. Just so tired of feeling rubbish and in pain day after day after day. I know stress doesn't help and my ds is 3yrs old. He's a very difficult boy always so angry. End of day I have to try anything else that might help to fix things for me before I go mental.

U should try reading the book Dangerous Grains by Braly & Hoggan, best explanation of the cause and effect I have ever come across, it's far more than IBS you need to think about.

I think it took about 3 months for mine to settle down totally. Stress definitely does not help

One thing that helped me when I get stressed to the point of screaming is to put on a relaxing cd or one of my hypnotherapy ones. Calms me down and relaxes my stomach. I appreciate how your feeling!

I also had some relaxation techniques taught me for my anxiety thing I have. They work wonders too.

Have you tried Yoga? Are you able to get out once in a while in the evenings to attend classes for some you time? Sounds like you need it

Thats good to hear then. I'll stick to it (no matter how tough it is) it'll be worth it. No I haven't tried yoga. Honestly don't think I would be capable of actually doing it I'm quite a fiery stressy person by nature Hubby in the forces so away alot. Not that I really mind because I do enjoy my time with my 3 kids.
