Hi all

Just wondered if you could offer me some advice. I am about 4 weeks pregnant (found out on Friday).

I have been training for a half marathon which is next weekend, I am just wondering if I will still be ok to do this or do you think I am best skipping it?

I have trained hard and would be disappointed but at the same time I don't want to risk anything to the pregnancy either...help!

Thanks in advance

They usually say to carry on with exercise that you've already been doing. So you wouldn't want to start training for a marathon, or indeed start running really now but you should be ok doing normal, for you, levels of activity.

However, I'm not sure about something as intense as what you're doing!

The main thing is to not get too hot and to stay hydrated.

Hopefully someone will come along with a bit more info

No it is fine - one of my friends who is a midwife ran a half marathon in October and gave birth in December and both her and the baby are fine.

You are told not to start exercising once you find out you are pregnant if it is not something you do already but as you do it already you should be fine.

Just be sensible and make sure you are hydrated and eat enough etc the nromal things you would do when training and running a race.
