migraine or tummy bug?

Dp was violently sick in the night last night after having had a severe headache for about an hour which was keeping him up. He still had the headache this morning and has stayed home off work but no longer feels sick.

So do I worry that there's a tummy bug in our midst or does it sound like a migraine? He does tend to get some headaches but says he's never had a migraine although how would he know that?

Should add that he wasn't sick again after that one episode in the night and that he hadn't been feeling sick before it happened. It was just a very sudden urge to rush to the toilet when he sat up.

Well just to add to the confusion I was also chucking up in the bathroom at 3 am and I've had a bit of a headache since. But as my two DCs have just had the vomiting bug that's going round school I reckon it's primarily that. Just had some toast now and seeing how that ahem, goes down.

Oh, so it might be a bug then? Did you feel sick before and since though? Dp doesn't feel sick and didn't before he was sick.

I get migraines and I am sometimes sick with them when the pain is really bad.

He said his tummy didn't feel bad at all, nor this morning. Just his headache made him feel sick. Does that sound like a bug?

I'm asking partly because I have to take regular steroids and if I get something that makes me vomit I can get quite unwell as my own body no longer produces cortisone. I always get in a real panic about these kind of bugs. But I do need to know at the same time.

any more advice?

Is the pain like a band of pain localised in one place? My migraines always hurt on the left side and its a band of pain going from my forehead, down behind my eye, down my face and down the left side of my neck.

Does bright light hurt his eyes? That's a fairly common symptom.

I tend to feel really nauseaus (sp?) when i have migraines but am rarely sick.

Other symptoms of migraines can be black spots or bright spots in front of the eyes (if that makes sense)

I also find it almost impossible to concentrate (never ask me to make a decision when I have a migraine )

Try googling migraines for more symptoms.

Thanks for your reply. I have migraines myself actually so I know what they feel like for me. I was just wondering if a one-off vomiting episode was more likely to be that than a tummy bug.

I'm probably asking an impossible question!
