ECG result, GP hasn't reviewed it yet - would this worry you?

Had an ECG last week (Weds) due to ectopic beats - only took about 30 seconds at the GP surgery.

Also had some blood tests. I phoned today for the result and was told the blood test was fine, but that the GP hadn't had a chance to look at the ECG result and would phone next week.

Would this worry you? Surely the ECG only takes a minute to review and say yes it's normal? My GP was away Friday and all this week but was in last Weds and Thursday. Or am I worrying needlessly?

Worrying needlessly.

GPs are very busy - if yours thought that your ECG was urgent, it would have been reviewed. It probably isn't that urgent (compared to the other stuff needing done) so has been put in a pile somewhere.

Really, they are normally very good at sorting out the important stuff - though not always the important stuff for you.

I agree with you it should take no time at all to review. Don't worry, it is probably laziness or incompetence rather than anything sinister. Bear in mind though, it is quite likely your ectopic beats won't be picked up on a standard ECG and you will need to have a 24 hr tape.

Thank you, I was more worried because the receptionist sounded a bit flustered - and yes I think I was meant to have the 24 hour tape but wires got crossed and I saw the wrong nurse!
