I am 31 and have two children and do not want anymore. I have been to the docs for my pill check today and she was asking if I may be interested in another form of contraception as iv been on the pill for a number of years, she was pushing more towards the implant however when I saw it I nearly fell off the chair. Im not good with medical stuff tbh cant beleive iv had two kids . Did anyone find they put weight on ect ? Any advice would be fab thanks.

I'm on it now, not put on any weight. It was extremely quick to put in and I've had no problems really. Lost my sex drive for a couple months but it came back and I'm really glad I got it. It also really helped reduce period pain and flow.

The only side effect was the area it was implanted itched like a bitch for about 2 weeks. But it doesn't bother me any more. hph

I've had it for about a year. Had the injection before that. I think its brilliant. I have no periods at all with it. No weight gain (other than the normal kind from overeating!! lol)

ive had mine taken out recently as i did not get on with it at all,
put on over 2 st in a yr, and i haven't changed my diet or become less active.
very bad mood swings, and off sex, and whenever i layed my head on my arm etc it became uncomfortable and would throb.

it does last 3 yrs, which is good, but i couldn't stand it anymore after 18 months out it came.

you can always have it taken out if it doesn't suit you.
and it didn't hurt going in or coming out.

I found it less bad than the pill for side effects, which makes sense in a way as it has less in it. I had no periods, which was great and each time (I've had two, for 2.5 years each - started spotting then and they replaced it/took it out). It comes out fairly easily and it is great not having to think about contraception.

I have been thinking about this, as a friend of mine has just had hers put in (she is 42).

I am due to see the nurse in April, so will ask about it then. No periods sounds like heaven!!!!

See its the period thing that worries me surely its healthy to have a period ?

Had a lot of spotting at first, but then calmed down and was fine .

Totally recommend it

Fertility takes a while to come back though if you want to ttc.

Getting it put in is not really that bad.

Saying that, I only had mine in for 5 weeks as it gave me migraines. Hving it removed was not too bad either.

I have had the implant and did not get on with it one bit. I bled constantly and put on weight. I joined WeightWatchers at the time and didn't shift a pound. The leader thought I was a liar and I fled in tears after 10 weeks of staying the same/putting on 1lb etc. I also had no sex drive. The worst thing for me though was the constant period. The nurse said it would settle down but after a year I had it taken out to ttc, lost about 7lb in the month following and got pregnant in that month of having it out so it didn't affect my fertility at all. I have heard though that when you have them out you are 'super' fertile. Don't know if it's true or anything though.

I was also worried about having it out, they have to slit your arm to push it out and the nurse said, if you have fat arms or put any significant weight on they sometimes get stuck in the fat but mine slid straight out in the end [phew!]
